Reflecting on 2017

How quickly 2017 has passed.  And oh, what a year it has been!   Saint Luke Lutheran Church has accomplished much in Christ's name for the life of the world, locally, nationally, and even on a global scale.  As time passes so quickly, we tend not to reflect on all that has been achieved in the name of the Lord.  Did you know Saint Luke has been blessed to support well over twenty different ministries whose overall goal is to know, love, and serve Christ-our fundamental faith mission?  These ministries range in size and scope, but they all share a passionate drive to help others in need.

Saint Luke is making a difference locally, across the country, and around the world.

Vacation Bible School

Every summer, Saint Luke creates a week-long, fun-filled, enthusiastic educational adventure for our community's children. Considered one of the most vibrant on the Main Line, our VBS ministry successfully reaches more families every year, with over 100 children actively attending.

There is a specific need to purchase more materials & to have additional volunteer support so even more children can take part.

Rejoicing Spirits

For the last 8 years, Saint Luke has sponsored a monthly worship service specifically designed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This joyful, rollicking, one-hour service combines prayer; wonderful music by our youth band, Two Copper Coins; and devotion. It provides an important spiritual and fellowship component to enrich the lives of many individuals and their caregivers, with as many as 75 people participating each month.

There is a specific need for more church volunteers to assist our current team, and funds to recognize the care-givers.

Morning Drive

Did you know we have an inspirational podcast where you can hear a five-minute-or-less excerpt from our pastors' weekly sermon? This wonderful message is available to us and the wider community through various social networks.  Since its inception, there have been over 4,700 downloads, equivalent to an additional 125 individuals sitting in the pews every Sunday.

With this ministry, there is a specific need to build local awareness via social media to expand our listenership.

Appalachia Service Project

Each year, adult volunteers, Spark students and their friends spend a full week in direct service responding to poverty by doing work that makes home safer, warmer, & drier.  This is a project that builds more than just homes; it constructs friendships, character, and understanding.

There is a specific funding need so that even more individuals can participate in years to come.

American Red Cross

In the United States, every two seconds someone is in need of blood. Saint Luke works with the American Red Cross to hold blood drives. We also work closely with local leaders for emergency preparedness.

There is a specific need for more volunteers to participate in these efforts.

Saint Luke mobilizes and generously supports the Lutheran Disaster Response Fund, through ELCA. This work is especially needed during natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey, which ravaged the Houston-area.

There is a specific funding need to purchase goods needed when disaster strikes.

Needles & Pins

This small but determined quilting group makes hand-crafted quilts that are distributed to disaster victims, and into refugee camps, all over the world. The quilts are used as protection against the elements, warm bedding, simple tents, floor coverings, baby carriers or as means to transport belongings from place to place.

There is a specific need for funds to purchase more materials so more quilts can be made, as well as more people to help make the quilts.

This past year, Saint Luke sent a group of congregational members to spread the word with our sister church, Mikanjuni Luthern Parish, in Tanzania.  This life-changing trip demonstrates that we are a congregation that seeks to make an impact around the world.

There is a specific need for funds here to continue to build our partnership with the Parish and to assist them in building their congregation and ministry.

& so much more!

End of Year giving

This has been a year of accomplishment, the Saint Luke way! We want to recognize and celebrate these diverse ministries, but to raise awareness that they need your time and financial resources.  As the year concludes, we are making a special effort to encourage all of us to give generously to Saint Luke.

Each December, we are blessed by the generosity of our congregation, receiving almost 24% of our annual giving!  As we look towards another wildly successful year end, we ask you to prayerfully consider making a gift above and beyond your regular giving to Saint Luke.

Our goal is to raise $130,000 by December, 31, 2017, which will enable the church to grow and strengthen its many different ministries.
