St. Luke EVANGELICAL Lutheran Church

Inviting others to join us on the journey is a key mark of discipleship, and the focus of our evangelism efforts.

At St. Luke we strive to be a Christ-centered family of faith that reaches out to all people, welcomes them with joy, and invites and enables them to participate in our ministries. We will especially seek out the unchurched in our community and those members who are missing from our midst.

Cast a Wide Net

When you checked out the cool evangelism bulletin board (Thanks to Marie Lambeck!), you saw that the E-Team had “Gone Fishin” during July. As disciples of Christ, Jesus has instructed us to “fish for people.”

According to fellow Christian, Mary Anderson in the August 2001 issue of The Lutheran, Jesus is telling us to cast our nets, toss the gospel out beyond ourselves. Fishing for people isn’t a specialized ministry; it’s the call of every baptized person. The method isn’t to catch people but to get to know people. Everyone can do a little communicating and witnessing. If we can recommend a movie, a vacation spot or a restaurant, we can relate our experience of what God and our church have done for us.

In response to Jesus’ instruction, and with continual encouragement from our Pastors, the E-Team is sponsoring an all congregational event. We are casting a wide net, reaching out to all those who need to hear about or be reminded of God’s great love through our Lord, the Christ. In a few weeks, you will find a special hand-out for you to share with a neighbor, a friend, a relative -- a token reminder of God’s love for them.

Please cast your net deep enough to include those St. Lukens whom you haven’t seen for awhile. Is there someone who sat near you in church on Sundays who has been missing for several weeks or months? If the answer is “yes”, please consider giving them a call and letting them know you have missed them. Or, if you prefer, please pass their name on to one of our E-Team members (Jennie Boschi, Donna Daly, John DeVol, Stephanie Funk, Ron Kostka, Marie Lambeck, Ben Smith, Sara Williams) and we will be glad to make that call for you. Working together, we can all be “fishers of people.”
