Spark @ Silver Springs

Spark Student Ministries believes in putting our faith into action. Students in grades 9-12 will visit Silver Springs - Martin Luther School to interact and play games with the young children that live there. In addition to putting faith into action, students have the opportunity to define their values and discover the value of service. 

We will stop for frozen yogurt on the way back to Saint Luke, so students are welcome to bring spending money.

During the season of Lent, we will collect non-perishable food and cleaning items for our local food pantry. Cereal, granola bars, crackers, mayo, catsup, mustard, juice boxes, oatmeal, paper goods, toothbrushes, toothpaste are the kinds of items in short supply right now. If you’re able to provide these for one of the 125 families served each month by the Great Valley Food Cupboard, please drop them off in the box outside Schlack Hall.

Stretch and Pray is a 5 week experience meets during Education Hour on Sundays.  Chase Ferguson, a Stephen's Minister, and Matt Heintzlman, a physical therapist will combine simple stretches and basic body movements with prayer and scripture to enhance physical and spiritual well being. Wear comfortable clothes and bring an open mind to this innovative class. All levels of ability are welcome. This group will not meet on May 6th due to the adult forum.

Appalachia Service Project

Students in 8th-12th grade, along with adults, will spend a week in West Virginia putting their faith into action, making homes warmer, safer and drier. As we work side-by-side, we will forge strong friendships, lives will be changed, and we will learn from our neighbors in Appalachia. JYG is Spark’s cornerstone Confirmation Retreat for all students in grades 6-9. Come have a blast and grow in your faith while staying at Refreshing Mountain Retreat in Lancaster, PA.  Students will gather at Saint Luke at 5:00 pm on Saturday, will spend the night at Refreshing Mountain Retreat in Lancaster, and will return to Saint Luke by 5:30 pm. on Sunday. The cost for the retreat is $95.

Blood cannot be manufactured – it can only come from generous donors.  Although an estimated 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood at any given time, less than 10 percent of that eligible population actually do each year.  Each donation matters! One donated pint of blood can save as many as three lives.

Lutherans and Catholics will mark the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation with an ecumenical seminar and worship at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale, PA. Speakers, Rev. Donald McCoid and Dr. John Borelli, will highlight theological progress toward unity. Worship will be led by The Rev. Peter Donahue, president of Villanova University, and Bishop Claire Burkat. The cost is $15, which includes lunch. This event is one of many wonderful SEPA synod Reformation 500 events.
