Stretch & Pray

Stretch and Pray is a 5 week experience meets during Education Hour on Sundays.  Chase Ferguson, a Stephen's Minister, and Matt Heintzelman, a physical therapist will combine simple stretches and basic body movements with prayer and scripture to enhance physical and spiritual well being. Wear comfortable clothes and bring an open mind to this innovative class. Participants can choose to bring a yoga mat to class or perform all exercises seated in a chair. All levels of ability are welcome. The class is based on the book "Stretch and Pray: A Daily Discipline for Physical and Spiritual Wellness" by Murray D. Fink. Books will be for sale at church, however you do not need to read the book to participate.  This group will meet on April 8, April 15, April 29, May 6 and May 13.

College Shirts for Silver Springs Collection

Students from Saint Luke will visit children living at Silver Springs - Martin Luther School later this month. During an afternoon of fun together, the idea of going to college will be presented and the children will be given the gift of a college t-shirt. We need 30 shirts in a variety of sizes to make sure every kid get one. You can purchase a new college t-shirt of your choice or donate $15 to sponsor the cost of a shirt. Donations are due by May 8.

Come learn about the ELCA and the important mission of this organization that guides the spiritual and practical aspects of Saint Luke and other Lutheran churches.  Pastor Brad Burke will be joining us for this special forum.  Pastor Brad Burke is a millennial, pastor, father, Star Wars aficionado and owner of a particularly surly beagle. He is an ordained pastor in the ELCA and likes good wine, worship, food and conversation. He spends his time working with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod, ELCA, supporting churches across the region in their ministries with younger generations and helping them to reimagine Christianity for a 21st century world. Appalachia Service Project

Students in 8th-12th grade, along with adults, will spend a week in West Virginia putting their faith into action, making homes warmer, safer and drier. As we work side-by-side, we will forge strong friendships, lives will be changed, and we will learn from our neighbors in Appalachia. Blood cannot be manufactured – it can only come from generous donors.  Although an estimated 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood at any given time, less than 10 percent of that eligible population actually do each year.  Each donation matters! One donated pint of blood can save as many as three lives.

Prayer Vigil

Prayer Vigil

Following the Maundy Thursday service, a 24-hour prayer vigil will begin. All are welcome to sign up for an hour of time in the sanctuary to experience several stations with music, devotional materials, our prayer labyrinth and quiet. The vigil will conclude at the start of our Good Friday service.  We need at least one person - prefer two - and would welcome more for each hour. There are two "slots" for each hour to make sure the times are covered. Once filled, there is room in the sanctuary for as many as wish to pray for an hour.

Being a teenager can be an exciting time but learning how to cope with school pressure, life at home, and impending adulthood can be overwhelming at times. Too often it's easy to turn to drugs and alcohol as a way to escape from the complexities of life. This one night program is designed just for teens and will be taught by Margaret Peterson, Professor of Theology and Psychology at Eastern University. The cost is $25.
