Context looks at verses we know by heart but may not know the people, places, and times that give them meaning. Josh Scott delves into well-known scripture verses, exploring their true meanings by examining them in their original biblical context. Through this process, he unveils fresh and enlightening interpretations that are often missed when these scriptures are taken out of context.

Every three years, thousands of high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives. The Gathering is for students in 8-12th grade and is being held in New Orleans July 16-20, 2024. Contact Pastor Mycah if you are interested in attending.

Students age 12+ are going to Gemma Services to play games and lead activities with children! Many of the children at Gemma Services have been through significant trauma. Being able to have positive experiences with big kids and adults from a local church shows them that people and God care. We will meet at Saint Luke at 12:15 and return by 4:00pm. Activities with the children will occur from 1-2:30pm. On our way back to church, we will stop for frozen yogurt to discuss the experience and spend time together. Adult volunteers are also needed.

Following the Maundy Thursday service, Saint Luke will commence a vigil to watch and pray as we remember Christ’s crucifixion and await His resurrection. This year the vigil will be held for selected hours in the sanctuary and in our homes in our own ways, concluding with the Good Friday service.
The hours for the Vigil in the Saint Luke Sanctuary take place as follows:
Thursday, March 28, 9:00-11:00 pm
Friday, March 29, 5:00 am-6:00 pm
All are welcome to sign up for an hour of time in the sanctuary to experience several stations with music, devotional materials, the prayer labyrinth and holy stillness. Please sign up online or on the board in the Narthex. The sign-up helps us keep a steady presence in the Sanctuary, but is not meant to exclude. Please come when you wish (during the stated hours) to pray, whether or not others are already there.

Walk with Jesus – Taking on Spiritual Practices during Lent
Lenten Series | Wednesdays @6:30 pm
Instead of—or in addition to—giving something up during Lent, you are invited to discover and participate in diverse spiritual practices along with worship and prayer centered around the Stations of the Cross & Resurrection. We’ll share a simple soup supper at 6:30 and hear about – and try out – a different spiritual practice each week. Then, we process to the sanctuary for a brief worship service. In Lenten Midweek Worship we will encounter Stations Of The Cross, a series of artworks, lessons and prayers from Pastor Mary Button that explore moments of chaos and crisis during pandemic life, connecting with Jesus’ Passion, and moments of community hope connected with Jesus’ resurrection ministry..
We’ll need some help with supper. If you’re able, please sign up to provide food or “host” setting up and cleaning up this season.
