Bistro Series: "The Difficult Sayings Of Jesus"

Every once in a while, Jesus says something that leaves us perplexed: "Sell everything you own." "Hate your father and mother." An outer darkness with weeping and gnashing of teeth. With guidance from author Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, we will explore how these difficult teachings would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation. Come learn together! Come be challenged, inspired, provoked, and comforted. Books are now available for $15. Contact the Church Office, 610-688-0122 or Office@ SaintLukeDevon.org.

Pentecost Pageant

Pentecost Pageant

"Mighty God, you breathe life into our bones, and your Spirit brings truth to the world. Send us this Spirit, transform us by your truth, and give us language to proclaim your gospel, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever."

So begins the Pentecost Pageant at Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Devon. Our celebration will feature professional actors, the Senior Choir, soloists, children, and bell ringers. Down the aisle we'll process with fiery flags and the narrators will lead us through the birthday of the Christian faith. Several of our parishioners will help read the Gospel in languages of the world. The pageant will feature songs, psalms, and hymns from many places including original music from Saint Luke's Director of Music, John Rea. Join in the celebration! All are welcome! No exceptions! Wear your red, orange, yellow and white clothes - the colors of fire - and get into the act. This interactive pageant will bring to life this special moment in the church.

Spring Bistro Series: "Uppity Women of the Bible ~ Ruth"

Our journey through the Book of Ruth is guided by the lively and thoughtful examination of Rev. Dr. Lisa Wolfe. Consider the vulnerability of widows and the difficult situation of foreigners in biblical times. Explore themes of loyalty, bitterness, courage, poverty and seduction. What really happened on the threshing room floor? Combining humor and careful scholarship, this study invites you to re-read the book with new insight and understanding for all its characters, especially the intelligent, confident – even uppity – heroine Ruth. The weekly sessions begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at 8:30. Plan to attend one, a few or all of them.
