VBS Hero Central uses epic music, spectacular science, creative crafts, heroic recreation, and fantastic Bible stories to help kids discover their strength in God. Tanzania Companionship Trip

Saint Luke is sending a group of eight to visit Mikanjuni Lutheran Parish, our Companionship Congregation, in Tanga, Tanzania from July 12 through July 26. Keep our travelers in your prayers as they prepare for the journey. On May 14, there will also be an opportunity to financially contribute to the trip and the service project that will be completed in Mikanjuni.

Blood cannot be manufactured – it can only come from generous donors.  Although an estimated 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood at any given time, less than 10 percent of that eligible population actually do each year.  Each donation matters! One donated pint of blood can save as many as three lives.

Appalachia Service Project

Students in 8th-12th grade will spend a week in North Carolina putting their faith into action, making homes warmer, safer and drier. As we work side-by-side, we will forge strong friendships, lives will be changed, and we will learn from our neighbors in Appalachia.

Summer Food Drive

This summer, we will collect non-perishable food and cleaning items for our local food pantry. Cereal, granola bars, crackers, mayo, ketchup, mustard, juice boxes, oatmeal, paper goods, toothbrushes, & toothpaste are the kinds of items in short supply. If you’re able to provide these for one of the 125 families served each month by the Great Valley Food Cupboard, please drop them off in the box outside Schlack Hall before July 2nd.

We will stop for frozen yogurt on the way back to Saint Luke, so students are welcome to bring spending money.

Lutheran Night with the Phillies

The Phillies will be hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks for Lutheran Night! Saint Luke plans to purchase tickets on the 200 level along the first base line (sections 206-211 or 233-237) for $38.00 each. In addition to purchasing tickets for yourself, you can also provide children from Silver Springs Martin Luther School the opportunity to attend the game. Tickets make a great gift for that sports fan in your life, it’s a lot of good Saint Luke fun, and proceeds benefit Synod youth programs.

At Saint Luke, everyone is welcome to participate in Holy Communion. No exceptions.
It is also a priority to provide learning about Holy Communion and support for parents as you discern when your child will begin to participate. Holy Communion is always included in Sunday School (especially in 5th grade) and Confirmation. The Holy Communion Workshop for younger children (along with parents) who:
• already receive communion
• are ready to begin
• want to learn more while your family discerns whether to begin participation.

Large Catechism Workshop

If you were confirmed in the Lutheran Church, then you “know” Luther’s Small Catechism. But, his Large Catechism is equally rich! In this workshop at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Chester Springs, Rev Dr. Karl Krueger will lead a program exploring the wonderful guides that Luther wrote for parishioners and pastors alike.  Karl is a historian by training, and a story-teller at heart. Fitting well with our 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the Large Catechism Workshop is not an event to miss! The faith communities of the Upper Main Line Ministerium invite you to a service of prayer for peace with justice. The Ministerium, which includes Jewish, Christian and Muslim congregations, plans an evening of worship to affirm the unity and solidarity of the human family while respecting religious differences—as we meet together to pray peace with justice for everyone. The event, at Frazer Mennonite Church, will also provide a safe environment to build and nurture relationships among individuals of varying faith traditions. Carly Cubit, a facilitator and trainer of the World in Conversation: Center for Public Diplomacy, understands these challenges and brings people together to have radically-open conversations on contentious social issues.  Carly will share about how to bring more healing, understanding, and love into the world so that we will be able to have difficult and courageous conversations.

Dr. Allan Schwartz is a retired nephrologist from Hahnemann Hospital has spent his retirement years studying the medical aspects of various presidents. He will be returning to Saint Luke to present another medical bio of one of our Presidents. Dr. Schwartz will share on the medical and sex life of Franklin D Roosevelt. It is sure to be an interesting and humorous presentation.
